Biography

 
 

Catherine studied first at the Birmingham Conservatoire under the direction of Pamela Cook MBE and later at the Royal Northern College of Music, graduating in 2003 with a Post Graduate Diploma in Performance. Catherine continues to study with the esteemed Singer and Vocal Tutor, Christine Cairns.

 

An experienced oratorio singer, Catherine has given many performances from Handel’s Messiah to the Duruflé Requiem, including a performance of Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Lichfield Cathedral under the baton of Philip Scriven in December 2003.

 

She has given a number of recitals and performed in many gala concerts, including opera gala’s at Coughton Court, Warwks, Crosby Hall, Liverpool and in Liseaux, Normandy with the Canoldir Welsh Male Voice Choir. In 2003 Catherine gave also gave a performance of Horovitz’s scena Lady Macbeth for the Royal Shakespeare Institute.

 

Catherine has performed a number of operatic roles including Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Cornelia (Giulio Cesare), Juno (Semele), Matryoshka (War and Peace) and Arnalta  (L’Incoronazione di Poppea), as well as Carmen, Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice,) The Hostess (Boris Gudinov), Mistress Quickly (Falstaff) and Third Lady and Third Boy (Die Zauberflote) in opera extracts.

 

Chorus experience includes travelling to Tokyo in 2002 to perform in a World Cup Event performance of Madame Butterfly with Pavilion Opera for Mastercard Japan. Catherine was also a member of the Opera Ireland Chorus and in 2005 and 2006  appeared in performances of Verdi’s La Traviata, Handel’s Imeneo and Gounod’s Faust at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.

 

 In June 2002 Catherine won second prize in the Mario Lanza Opera Competition and was a finalist in the prestigious 2003 RNCM Frederick Cox Singing Competition.
